Synopsis:
The village head of Joshpura is Raja Thakur (Amrish Puri), who loves his village and wants to improve the conditions of division that exist between villagers. Whilst one group is loyal to Raja Thakur, the other has sworn alliance to Balli Thakur (Milind Gunaji) son of Raja Thakur's younger brother Birjti Thakur (Govind Namdeo). Balli and Birju terrorise the villagers to support them. Raja Thakur eagerly awaits the arrival of his younger son Shakti (Anil Kapoor) from^ abroad where he has studied, as he believes Shakti can stop the villagers from fighting through love and awareness.
Shakti has other plans; he returns with a modern girl Anita (Pooja Batra) who he wishes to marry and settle in the city where he would look to establish a fast food restaurant, this shocks Raja Thakur. Oblivious to his fathers feelings, Shakti is busy being a tour guide to Anita. In his enthusiasm to show Anita the village, he opens the locked doors of a temple that has been closed due to a family dispute. A major row is inevitable between Balli and Shakti. Anita returns to the city. Raja Thakur tries to settles the dispute between the cousins, but is & insulted and humiliated by Balli. Raja Thakur is heart broken and dies. Shakti must now decide whether he stays behind in the village to fulfil his fathers dream or live with Anita in the city - he decides to stay. Shakti is required to marry Gehna (Tabbu), the village belle in order to protect her life and reputation. Anita returns from the city and contacts Shakti. Balli and his men plant a bomb which will explode during a village procession. What else can go wrong for Shakti?, what can he possibly do to improve the situation?
