Foxcatcher

Gem of a movie

(Edit) 03/05/2021

This is an understated gem of a movie. 5 star rating for the acting and editing. Olympic style Wrestling is a minority sport in UK and I was uncertain about watching this film. I was encouraged by the positive reviews and I hope my review will encourage other people to watch and enjoy this film.

Moneyball

3.5 Star rating

(Edit) 27/04/2018

I would have rated this film as 4 stars after viewing 3/4 of the film . My downgrading was related to the need for some editing of the latter sections of the film. It is about people adjusting to change . You certainly do not need intimate knowledge of baseball to enjoy the changing fortunes and emotions of the people.

The Florida Project

An understated gem

(Edit) 15/04/2018

This is a multi-layered film focussing on people in USA who are not 'living the dream' that visitors to Florida imagine.

The final scene is the final irony.

Call Me by Your Name

Great film

(Edit) 15/04/2018

Understated, gently paced film. It works well on several levels as we witness teenage angst during one long summer.

Beautifully filmed.

Nocturnal Animals

Too much style, too little substance

(Edit) 06/03/2018

I was disappointed with this film. The film lacked depth and credibility.

Amy Adams is always very watchable , hence 2 stars.
