Synopsis:
Elgar's Tenth Muse, shot on location in London and Sussex, dramatizes a moving moment in the life of English composer, Sir Edward Elgar. It is set in 1919, with Elgar tormented by self-doubt and convinced he would never write again. It was then that he heard the brilliant, Hungarian violinist Jelly d'Aranyi, an outstanding musician, and beautiful young lady. Elgar was entranced by her playing and called her his darling 'tenth muse'. Their differences formed the basis of a brief but poignant relationship.
Featuring Natalie Clein playing the Adagio from Elgar's Cello Concerto, Op. 85 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Conducted by Andrew Davis. Soundtrack includes performance by Maxim Vengerov of part of Elgar's Violin Sonata, Op. 82.
