A Call to Spy

Poor dramatisation that doesn't do justice to the women concerned

(Edit) 14/03/2021

Appeared to be an american take, budget film, on a a very British subject and only scratches at the surface of the story. Shots of London during the second world war are not convincing (the same american style cars in every shot). The storyline is very shallow and not very gripping and you don't really get to care about the characters. A lot

Overall it was disappointing and, if as it says is based on a true story, then really doesn't do justice to these great women.

Pain and Glory

Inconsiderate subtitles

(Edit) 06/05/2020

There's no excuse for using small white subtitles. Much of the film was filmed against light/white backgrounds making it very difficult to read them. Foreign language films need to be made accessible with good subtitling and there was no effort made to do this with this film. It ruined the experience for me.

Fisherman's Friends

No cliche unexplored

(Edit) 05/09/2019

Might have been based on an interesting story but this film is so full of cliches it was painful to watch.

The Handmaiden

Beautiful film. Shame about the subtitles

(Edit) 22/03/2018
Spoiler Alert

Interesting film based on Fingersmith by Jeanette Winterton. Beautiful photography.

I just wish film would put their white subtitles on a black background. Very difficult to see at times against a light background in the film, and there are a lot of those.

In the Heart of the Sea

Unusually bad film from Ron Howard

(Edit) 16/09/2016

Bad visual effects, cartoon type look to scenes at times, main character mumbling throughout, story line simplistic and uninteresting. Surprising.
