Fisherman's Friends

A really “feel good “ movie

(Edit) 20/05/2021

Based on a true story I really enjoyed this film from beginning to end. The stunning scenery certainly adds to the atmosphere. Veteran Maggie Steed mastered the Cornish accent. Action sequences were very well done

Mary Poppins Returns

Terrible sequel

(Edit) 20/05/2021

I endured this to the painful end. Overdone accents and ascerbic attitude of Mary didn’t endear. Special effects seriously over produced and overtook the weak plot. Producers should have left Mary Poppins where she belongs-in the original film. P L Travers would have been horrified to see this poor sequel

Breathe

Bittersweet film based on a true story

(Edit) 20/05/2021

Brilliantly filmed with some really professional actors. A reminder of how far medicine has come in the latter half of the twentieth century. Poignant scenes and places beautifully shot. Tissues required in some of the scenes but the unconditional love of Diana was uplifting and deserves our admiration. A great movie

Overboard

Mawkish nonsense

(Edit) 20/05/2021

Not a patch on the original with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell although this one swapped gender places. Fast talking and over-posturing, I didn’t enjoy this at all

Last Chance Harvey

A feel good film

(Edit) 04/11/2020

Still good viewing second time around. A bit dated now but something soothing to watch these dark evenings. Quality cast

Brother Alfred

Poor quality, limp plot

(Edit) 27/10/2020

I found the film quality poor(it was old and black and white) but comparing the plot with the book on which it was based, bore only vague similarities. Returned after about half an hour viewing

Jeeves and Wooster: Series 1

More good clean fun!

(Edit) 28/09/2020

Never fails to entertain, no matter how many times I’ve already watched it! Perfect casting with Stephen Fry as the quintessential English butler. Hugh Laurie’s Wooster as the hapless man about town in a bygone age is epitomises P G Wodehouse’s literary character

Blandings: Series 2

Good clean fun!

(Edit) 14/09/2020

As a P G Wodehouse fan, I love anything, even adapted versions of his stories. A good belly laugh from beginning to end. Great actors. Just what we need to keep cheerful during this pandemic

Unforgotten: Series 2

Disappointing

(Edit) 25/08/2020

I didn’t watch much of this as I found the amount of bad language upsetting and offensive, some scenes too graphic, I would’ve have thought, for the average 15 year old
