Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson reunite in Last Chance Harvey, a wonderful London-set romantic comedy that celebrates new beginnings - at any age. Things aren't going well for New Yorker Harvey Shine (Dustin Hoffman). He's lost his job as a jingle writer and his daughter has chosen her stepfather to walk her down the aisle at her wedding - instead of Harvey. But following an unexpected meeting with Kate (Emma Thompson), things finally look like they're about to change for the better...
Two top draw thespians at their prime in a vehicle which doesn't do them justice however ive seem worse and did enjoy it some................ at a few points it was brutal on the heart strings, but as Michael Cain once said it pays the mortgage

Well it's nice have a movie based in London for a change. This is rather slow but if like movies without SFX and loud bangs then this is for you.

Whilst everyone is trying their best, this romantic comedy must have been outdated even when it was released. It leans so heavily on outmoded tropes of expensive weddings and hetero- and mono-normative relationships that its cultural assumptions alone left me frustrated. Let alone the apparent re-location of Heathrow Airport to somewhere just off the King's Road! The only time anyone seems to have considered doing something more sensible that getting a taxi between Heathrow and London was some rather conspicuous advertising by the (then new) "Heathrow Express" rail service - an almost equally ill-informed way to travel.
In the end I'm sorry this wasn't better. Maybe this formula has missed its last chance.
