I had to stop watching this film after half an hour, as it was pretty impossible to understand a word of what was going on. The dialogue is so badly articulated, and the young girls both mumbled and spoke so badly, I just gave up. I find t his more and more with American films in particular, where many of the actors don't speak clearly. So no idea what the plot was, I couldn't be bothered to find out.
This was the third time I have watched this gentle rather bittersweet film. Recommend it highly. Captivating scenes on the crowded Indian trains, busy streets, and the lunchbox system. Very likeable characters for whom one wants the story to end happily. I just loved it.
Beautifully filmed, and heartfelt.
This film was spoilt for me by the mumbled dialogue, which made it almost impossible to follow. The lead male was particularly bad, but it has put me off renting any more American films. Sub titles could have helped.
I couldn't watch this through to the end. Although the part of Diana was well acted, it was pretty impossible to hear what she was saying. Maybe the soundtrack on this DVD wasn't the best, but Diana spoke in a mumbling whisper throughout the film, and found most of the characters totally unlikeable.
I wish I'd read the reviews before watching the film; and even more I regret not turning it off. A completely bizarre, distasteful, incomprehensible and sick movie ... I echo the sentiments of others in questioning how such brilliant lead actors could accept to play in this increasingly nasty film.
None of these characters had anything remotely interesting to say, and their drunken evenings were pathetic. A pity that the glorious scenery they walked through wasn't commented on, and it would have been good to know where actually they were each day. Can't believe these are mature men, pity their wives.
Give this a miss.
