Rain

Rain

(Edit) 29/10/2006

Never really understood why the film was called Rain. Like it never rains. Sorry if I'm a bit slow here...

A touching and moving story, enigmatic and atmospheric.

Rather too much time spent on describing the lifestyle of the family: alcoholic mum, 70s parties etc. but does get going and provides a thought-provoking conclusion.

If you like this then I'd recommend "Whale Rider" which is altogether a stronger movie.

Whale Rider

Are there any other mvoies like this?

(Edit) 29/10/2006

if so, I would like to see some more!

The only 5 star movie so far for me.

It's a coming of age drama with a great performance from the young female lead.

Beautiful NZ scenery, strong storyline, moving and memorable. Watched it a second time before returning the DVD.

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress

Thought provoking and beautiful

(Edit) 20/11/2006

Enjoyed this movie greatly. It's thought provoking and beautiful. It's a coming of age drama, a romance, a story set in troubled times and an insight into rural China a few decades ago.

The Mistress of Spices

Don't judge a book by it's cover...

(Edit) 20/11/2006

The poster looks good but the movie disappoints.

Echoes of Chocolat but just too weak.

The Story of the Weeping Camel

Mongolian Documentary-style-Drama

(Edit) 20/11/2006

Nicely shot and sweet. Try this one if you liked "Cave of the Yellow Dog". Yellow Dog is better though - more happens and even better photography.

Both movies are artistically presented insights into an unfamiliar culture and are worth watching for this reason alone.
