In 1890 in the town of Paradise, a professional gunfighter is forced to take custody of his sister's four children, retiring to a farm and a quiet life. Nevertheless, he is often called upon by residents to defend them from lawlessness...The town is booming again as a new vein of copper has the mine re-opened. A sheriff has been hired, as Ethan (Lee Horsley) turned down the job. The new sheriff starts shaking down the business and comes to realize that Ethan is in his way... One day in Ethan's life as marshal includes a missing step-mother, advances from the local schoolteacher, a crooked card game, a man who has a way with animals after a near-death experience, a lost bird, a fight, and gunmen collecting on a debt. Ethan weighs the demands of the town against time with his family...When the children first arrived in Paradise their uncle Ethan had been shot and left for dead by the gunman, Dan Bridges (Brian Libby).
