Starts off OK, goes quickly downhill. There are plenty online reviews which can slate it far more eloquently than I can but clunky dialoque, characters you couldn't care less about, and some special effects that would look at home on 80's tv, are just a few of my gripes with this.
Good film that is worth a watch....
* Watch with subtitles on as it's very wordy at points and audio not always that clear
* Try and concentrate (turn off laptop/ipad)
* Even after concentrating throughout the film factor in an hour or so after it to read up or watch explainations on Youtube
It astounds me that someone is able to come up with a film like this with such an involved/intelligent idea, it's real brainiac stuff!
I found this an enjoyable film that kept my attention throughout. It helps that it is not overly long.
I put the subtitles on as soon as Jeff Bridges character appeared, without them I would have turned it off.
My fault, but I had assumed that this would be a collection of short acted ghost stories, speciifically the BBC ones aired around xmas, instead it was Robert Powell telling ghost stories in a smoking jacket in a candlelit room in a slightly off putting voice.
I couldn't concentrate on the stories as his voice and the room was so distracting.
I was 1 years old when it was originally aired so my attention span can't cope.
I really enjoyed this film. Although it deals with a pretty depressing subject it does so with a light touch and is quite amusing in parts. Coogan and Dench are very good in it.
