When a curate is burnt to death inside a straw effigy, Barnaby and Scott are called to Midsomer Parva to investigate the strange goings-on. It turns out the village has a history of witchcraft - and some of the residents think that black magic is to blame for the death... But the detectives discover more down-to-earth motives for murder. Nightclub owner Alan Clifford has been upsetting the locals with his loud parties and unconventional ways. Pillars of the community Margaret Hopkins and Dr Cole, meanwhile, had their own reasons for disliking the curate. Can Barnaby uncover the truth and prevent a witch hunt?
