Film began AFTER the crash so avoided the usual panic of the crash itself and the following fight for survival didn't follow the usual rubbish formula of monsters, superheroes, or strange non-Arctic creatures....
Mads Mikkelsen carried the entire film with his under-stated acting and virtually no dialogue, and in addition we got no backstories at all so it was very much a 'what you see is what you get'.
Personally I found it much more realistic and gripping because of that.
Really liked this film. It's gentle and believable and lovely to watch.
At times funny but also very poignant and sad - certainly shows the divide between the 'classes' .
Wasn't so impressed with the ending though.
Being an oldie I was around in 1970 so remember many of the protests and interviews of the time.
In my humble opinion this film is over-acted with most of the demonstrators being shown as manic man-hating feminists, plus there's little (any?) mention of the fact that many of the competitors were delighted to be in the contest as it gave them an opportunity to change their lives.
Shame as I was looking forward to it.
Enjoyed this. Not really into horror so was dubious about renting it but after the first 25 minutes or so which were a tad slow, it was a well paced thriller. Wouldn't call it a horror film as it wasn't gory or scary, but it was very thought-provoking as you kept wondering if she was simply bats or something really was happening to her.
Nice idea, and well acted film. Some parts were over-long and a little boring but all in all a perfectly pleasant 90 minutes or so.
