McGregor's Wrong Trousers

(Edit) 22/02/2009

The film was so interesting I became obsessed with McGregor's trousers half way through when they turned yellow and a little freaky.

I love psychological thrillers when they follow psychology - BUT this wow - if you can wait to the anti-climatic end (and the rest of my family couldn't deciding to go to their rooms or bed)

You really will be impressed by it's anti-climatic nature. Painful film - very hard slog for those who love the genre.

The Pledge

Enjoyable portrayal

(Edit) 20/02/2009

An intriguing murder mystery that's also effective as a character study.

Penn shows maturity patience and acting knowledge in letting the actors discover those moments, rhythms, and their quirks that make characters believable.

With the purposefully shaky hand of Jack Nicholson giving its power - some developments have a natural predictability, the movie ends up taking us on a journey that is unexpected and shattering.

Taken

Great movie

(Edit) 01/02/2009

This film has the speed and impact of the Jason Bourne films - if you liked them my guess is you'll like this too because the same kind of energy and cloak and dagger exists here and set around a x - 'preventer' whose daughter goes missing in Paris - grabbed by some Albanian underworld criminals. One for all the 15+ family.

The only thing i'll take issue with is Liams hair colour - grecian 2000 gome very wrong. Joking aside a very watchable enjoyable and can't take your eyes off the screen kind of film.

Babylon A.D.

Meaningless

(Edit) 20/02/2009

It felt like they'd cut this film / script / acting to the bone making it meaningless.

There may have been a point but they did such a bang up job...

Because of this it left few moments of tension and the end feeling of what the hell was that about and oh well lets send it back quick and hope we can get a better film next.

Reactions amongst different members of the family were unanimous - and we've got varying tastes and don't succumb to group family pressure.

Tropic Thunder

expecting more and getting less

(Edit) 29/01/2009

Really was expecting more from this film. The potential was there! And thats what makes it so disappointing - a missed opportunity from what was a potentially great cast. This film should have been a winner, it was crying out for a lets take the .... out of the vietnam / yank debacle and the limited yank portrail in its globalised market. With forgiving Cruise his cult status !) and perhaps remembering he has his own axe to grind on the Hollywood producers and studios - he did a good job. What of the others, what indeed!

Headspace

Good idea's lost

(Edit) 04/03/2009

There are good ideas pulsing through Andrew van den Houten's horror flick, but it's a film that I ended up thinking they could have done a lot better considering the directions and depths they could have reached. Unsurprising is really something unwanted in a horror film, Isn't it?

The Strangers

NOT BASED ON A TRUE STORY in as much it's not a true story

(Edit) 17/03/2009

Despite the beginning of the film telling us that it is based on a true story BUT no one knows what really happened and then taking Bertinos words at face value - he admitted that the idea came about from an experience he had as a kid when some one came to the door and asked for someone who wasn't there - then he heard about a number of burglaries in his area on houses that were unoccupied! The inspiration for the film he says comes from The Manson Family murders and that's it!

Film is aggonising on suspense.
