- Synopsis:
This hilarious 1950s romantic comedy fallows the life and loves of a Yorkshire miser who is forced to broaden his outlook on life after he takes a trip to London. Despite inheriting his Father's factory, Yorkshire rag merchant Chayley Broadbend (John Gregson) is haunted by the spirit of his miserly father and still counts every penny. So much so that fiancee Ethel (Susan Stephen) turns down his marriage proposal rather than become his unpaid housekeeper. Rejection encourages the moneybags skinflint to depart Barfield and drown his sorrows down in London. The Rugby League Cup Final night throws him together with voluptuous chorus girl Ruth West (Diana Dors) who knows a good thing when she sees it. When Chayley returns to Barfield, Ethel breaks off their engagement. In order to prove his worth, Chayley gets elected as a local councillor and invites Ruth to open a new childrens playground, and then the shenanigans really begin!! - Actors:
