New TV Series Coming in 2019

Whether you are a boxset fan or happy to delve into live shows aired on the television, there are a number of new TV shows to look out for in 2019 and, even better, we’re bound to get our hands on them here at Cinema Paradiso so you can watch them at your leisure.

From brand new period dramas to much-loved glamour, there are a number of new TV shows to look forward to, as well as some of the most anticipated TV shows set to be aired in 2019.

Take a look at some of the new TV shows coming in 2019 that we are extremely excited about here at Cinema Paradiso:

  • Line of Duty (2012)

    5h 0min

The police corruption thriller is back for 2019 (yay!) and promises to bring more drama about police anti-corruption unit AC-12. Filming for the next series of Line of Duty began in September 2018 and will be airing early 2019. The word on the street is that it will be out in April. What can we expect? Gripping interviews and a detailed plot. One more thing’s for sure: We can’t wait!

  • The Crown (2016)

    Unknown

The Crown series 3 is set to star Olivia Colman playing Queen Elizabeth II. Olivia Colman is taking over the role from Claire Foy who has been praised for her acting of the Queen in series 1 and 2. The re-jigging of the cast has meant that there has been a longer time period between series 2 and 3, series 2 was brought out in December 2017 and therefore the wait for the next series has been long. Series 4 is being shot back-to-back though with series 3 so we can expect two gripping series to be released fairly close together this year.

    Philip Martin
    Cast:
Olivia Colman, Claire Foy, Matt Smith

  • Killing Eve (2018)

    Unknown

Killing Eve series 2 will be aired in the US on April 7th 2019, so the likelihood is that the UK will be airing it shortly after. Hurrah! Thrilling and in-style are just some of the terms we are using to describe Killing Eve. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse into series 2:

  • Taboo (2017)

Starring Tom Hardy and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), Taboo was loved first time round for its “grit” and “grime” drama. Expect more of the same in this second series, where there is a further story to tell. This series arrives in eight parts, and we’re going to enjoy every minute!

    Director:
    Kristoffer Nyholm
    Cast:
Tom Hardy, David Hayman, Jonathan Pryce
    Genre:
TV Thrillers, TV Dramas, TV Mysteries
    Availability:
    Blu-ray, DVD
  • Peaky Blinders (2013)

    Unknown

Series 5 of Peaky Blinders once again takes us back to 1920’s Birmingham, just after World War 1. It won’t be the last of the series but it will kick off from the dramatic finale of series 4. If you haven’t seen any of the Peaky Blinders episodes yet, we suggest you start watching… An interesting fact about it is that much of the series was shot in Yorkshire, despite being set in Birmingham. This is mainly because it was funded by the Yorkshire Content Fund.

    Director:
    David Caffrey
    Cast:
Cillian Murphy, Jon Glover, Sam Neill
    Genre:
    TV Dramas, TV Crimes

  • Game of Thrones (2011)

We’re so excited for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, if not just a little sad that it will be the last! The six-episode series is due to air in April but comes with a twist. Although there are fewer episodes in this final series than there has been previously, the episodes will be longer than in the past - they’ll be up to 80 minutes long. We’re looking forward to unexpected character returns, finding out whether some, or all, the characters die and an absolutely epic series.

    Director:
    Timothy Van Patten
    Cast:
Sean Bean, Sean Bean, Struan Rodger
    Genre:
TV Sci-Fi & Fantasy, TV Dramas, TV Political, TV Action & Adventure
    Availability:
    Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Blu-ray
  • The War of the Worlds (2019)

    2h 42min

The War of the Worlds has actually been in development for quite some time with many of us wondering when the Martians are actually going to make their way down to Earth for their star appearance on our television screens. There were rumours that the TV series was being put together three years ago and this year is the year that we can expect to see it aired. The show is being put together by Peter Harness (he also worked on McMafia, 2018) and has been adapted from HG Well’s 19th-century science fiction novel. The era of the TV series will be Edwardian (rather than Victorian) and is expected to go worldwide. We’re certain that this TV series will definitely be worth the wait.

  • Good Omens (2019)

    Play trailer
    5h 26min

The upcoming TV series Good Omens is based on Terry Pratchett’s and Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. Interestingly, it is a co-production between BBC Two and Amazon Prime, and we can’t wait to watch it here at Cinema Paradiso (and share it with our lovely customers too, of course!). All of the six episodes in the series are set to be released on 31st May 2019. The story is set in 2018 and, anyone who is not familiar with the novel, will be intrigued to learn that the series follows the demon, Crowley, and the angel, Aziraphale, who have come to get used to life on Earth and want to prevent the coming of the antichrist and the final battle of heaven and hell. Starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen as Crowley and Aziraphale, the series is very much a fantastical watch, absorbing all our attention and leaves us wondering what lurks around the corner.

    Director:
    Douglas Mackinnon
    Cast:
David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Frances McDormand
    Genre:
TV Comedies, TV Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Availability:
    DVD, Blu-ray
