Originally broadcast as part of the BBC’ Play for Today series this is the first ever episode: Rumpole’s son Nick is heading off to the United States. However, Before Rumpole can meet him for lunch he must fight the case of a young lad accused of stabbing a man in bus queue outside Lord’s Cricket ground. The case does not prove to be as simple as Horace had hoped! Rumpole's Return: After losing ten cases in a row in front of Judge Bullingham, Rumpole decided to retire from the law and has gone to visit his son Nick in America. When he receives a letter requesting his help on a case involving his specialist subject of bloodstains, he sees it as an invitation to return to chambers. The other members of chambers are less than pleased to see him back.
