Jungle Run

Total Rubbish

(Edit) 07/01/2022

This must be the worst film ever. Total crip with an a, I now have to write rubbish to get sufficient words in for this review to be accepted.

Wild Britain

Sheer Excellence

(Edit) 31/12/2018

Having watched many, many recordings of this nature (no pun intended) I rate this one as one of the very best. The quality of the picture and the wonderful voice of Hugh Bonneville had me riveted to my seat for the 3 hours on each disc. The only comment I will make is that it may not be suitable for younger viewers because of the amount of breeding that is shewn in graphical content. Okay, it might be over in a second with some of the animals but it could still raise some very awkward questions. Outside of that it is a very informative production that I would recommend to all. A treat to watch.

Canals: The Making of a Nation

From the beginning...

(Edit) 17/12/2018

Having watched many documentarys on many subjects this one is so outstanding I just had to review it. In a series of seven parts it takes you through from the beginning of canals, as a working industry, past the times of their slump, due to railways, and on to more modern days of barges becoming pleasure boats, almost floating caravans. The filming is excellent but, bless her, the woman who does the narration could have been better. That does not presuppose that she is no good, she is. It's just that it could have been even better.

For anyone, like me, who has had no real experience of barges it's a real eye opener, an enjoyable history lesson of the past. Children working on the barges with no school or education, little or no medical assistance and how it was overcome. How government legislation was introduced and, initially, ignored. So many things that adding too much further could be seen as a spoiler.

All I can say is watch it and agree with me. It's all on one disc and each episode is just under half an hour long. It was so interesting that it was the shortest three and a half hours of my life.

UFO

A film with a difference

(Edit) 13/12/2018

I was expecting to see a second rate sci-fi film but I was more than pleasantly surprised. It's a well made film, purely fictional, about a young college student who gets hooked on an occurence at an airport. The kid, being an expert maths sudent notices some anomalies between the reported facts and mathematical equations. I won't go further as I don't want to make any spoilers. Let it suffice to say that I am a hard task master and 95% of the films are, I'd like to say rubbish, but certainly they insult my intelligence. This one had me hooked that it ended far to swiftly. It's 85 minutes, almost an hour and a half, but it just flew away. Well worth a watch.

Queen of the Desert

Brilliance, pure brilliance.

(Edit) 01/05/2018

The acting and story line couldn't be better. The sets are obviously in other countries to UK and they speak for themselves.

It is not the life story of Gertrude Bell but a piece of history that she made. There are so many good points in this production that it is hard to believe that they have been ignored by others.

I can only suggest that you watch it and make your own mind up. I read the only review that was available at the time and I nearly did not rent it. I am so pleased that I did. I thought that it was excellent.

The Crown: Series 1

Sheer Excellence

(Edit) 06/03/2018

I don't do many reviews as I was brought up to believe that if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all. This series is absolutely wonderful in every aspect. It portrays our Monarchy in the raw displaying the thoughts of individuals on individuals. It covers from the abdication of King Edward VIII, the reign of King George VI and on to Queen Elizabeth II.

It shows a side of other public dignitaries in a way that we, the general public, would not necessarily be aware. The acting is superb and the sets, brilliant. Is the inside of Buckingham Palace really like that which is shewn?

Alltogether it is perhaps the best series that I have seen in a long time and ranks alongside of Breaking Bad. If you are contemplating viewing this, think no more. Get on with it and get it. It's wonderful and has renewed my full love of our Royalty. Roll on Season 2.

David Gilmour: Live at Pompeii

Not Floyd but extremely good.

(Edit) 02/02/2018

What brilliant music. I was not au-fait with all of the tracks but even those were excellent. It seems obvious after watching/listening to this production that David Gilmour was a prime leader in Pink Floyd, so versatile, plays almost anything. However, a bit like Paul McCartney and many other ageing entertainers the voice is not what it was and perhaps it's time for them to consider taking a back seat and do more arranging , directing and producing, but that does not take anything away from this double DVD. After renting and watching I am now buying it.
