Classic Joules Verne meets Disney - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea review by RL

Spoiler Alert
17/05/2015

This 19th century cult book by sci-fi visionary Joules Verne was superbly rendered here by movie visionary Walt Disney. The Nautilus submarine's interior is lavishly rendered in 19th century style. Splendid 1950's colour fiming. Kirk Douglas lends his charisma to the Popeye type sailor. James Mason was well chosen as Captain Nemo, a man whose compassion for the earth is expressed by ruthless means. The good vs. evil notion is left to your judgement...
