- The story opens in the present with Heathcliff (Tom Hardy) tormented by memories of his soulmate Cathy (Charlotte Riley) and then flashes back to Mr Earnshaw (Kevin R. McNally) bringing Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights as a young boy. Cathy and Heathcliff become inseparable, much to the resentment of Cathy's brother, Hindley (Burn Gorman). Years later Cathy is torn between succumbing to her love tor Heathcliff or choosin a life of comfort and wealth with Edgar Linton (Andrew Lincoln). Cathy turns to loyal maidservant Nelly (Sarah Lancashire) for advice when she realises thai she cannot bea the thought of ever being separated from Heathcliff...

I've watched a couple of different versions of Wuthering Heights in the recent past but don't always remember the plot; at times it's rather convoluted & get annoyed with the emotional content.
The use of the same names for multiple characters, like Catherine (as Heathcliff's love)and her mother is sorta confusing plus who's who of the Lintons. Couldn't recognise Heathcliff for a while as not visible behind mid 1800s long dark greasy hair.
Sarah Lancashire was good sorting out a disfunctional family shouting and yelling, Andrew Lincoln got more objectionable as it went on and Kevin McNally had only a short part as Papa Earnshaw.
To be honest I found this version rather dreary all told, and gave up halfway, sent it back.
