Synopsis:
As the Union Jack finally descended on former colonies all over the world after the Second World War, communist, nationalist and religious guerrilla forces saw their chance. The British Empire was leaving - and creating a dangerous power vacuum in its place. The war to succeed the British had begun... "Empire Warriors" focuses on four key wars fought at the end of Empire. It features original archive and news footage together with dramatic reconstructions of key events, while former soldiers, terrorists, politicians and intelligence specialists offer vivid, first hand accounts of the last wars of Empire...

1. Kenya: The Hunt for Kimathi
Fuelled by drugs and bound to service by grotesque black magic ceremonies, the Land and Freedom Army - or the Mau Mau, as they came to be called - slaughtered blacks and whites alike in a bloody revolt that shook post-war Kenya. For the British authorities, hunting down their charismatic religious leader Dedan Kimathi was the top priority...
2. Aden: Mad Mitch and His Tribal Law
Although the British had already agreed to leave Aden within two years, Arab nationalist groups wanted to be seen to actively drive them out. In June 1967, 22 British soldiers were killed - betrayed by Arabs they'd considered friends. Despite the timidity of the then Labour government, Lt. Colonel Colin 'Mad Mitch' Mitchell and his Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders smashed the local revolt with an iron fist...
3. Malaya: The Intelligence War
In 1948, Communist groups from within Malaya's Chinese immigrant population unleashed a campaign of terror in Britain's richest colony. The fight went on for 12 years - long after Malaya had achieved independence - with Special Branch waging a uniquely effective intelligence war against the Communist Guerrillas.
4. Palestine: The Jewish War
As boatloads of Holocaust survivors fled Europe looking for a homeland in Palestine, the British authority there tried to keep an uneasy peace between Jews and Arabs. They found themselves the targets of Irgun and the Stern Gang - two Jewish terrorist cells intent on driving the British out - and capable of some of the most audacious acts of terrorism the world had yet seen...
