Synopsis:
Breaking the Sound Barrier
The fear of scientists was that an aircraft would break up if it reached Mach 1. But man's desire to reach the speed of sound drove him on until 1947 when captain Chuck Yeager, broke the barrier in the Bell X-1 rocket aircraft. On a flight to reach twice the speed of sound at 1,650 mph in 1953, Chuck Yeager's Bell-X1A rolled and plummeted to earth as he was knocked unconscious.

The Land Speed Record
With breath-taking footage of triumph and disaster this documentary tells the story of the men who risked their lives to be the fastest on land. From Malcolm Campbell's 'Bluebird' to Craig Breedlove's self-designed plane without wings that broke the 600mph barrier in 1965 it is the true story of man's obsession with speed and danger on land.

Fastest on Water
The obsession to be the fastest on water has led to a series of tragedies culminating in the death of Donald Campbell at Coniston Water in 1967. The night before his doomed attempt to be the first person to break 300 mph on water, the superstitious Campbell drew a prophetic bad luck hand at cards. After reaching 297 mph on the first leg, he turned around and fatally raced the boat to 300 mph and disaster.
