The story centers on a family of priests: Johannes (Lars Mikkelsen), Elisabeth (Ann Eleonora Jørgensen) and their sons August (Morten Hee Andersen) and Christian (Simon Sears). Johannes is God-like to his sons - he gives, loves, and punishes. His favoritism for August and his disappointment with Christian forces both into making desperate choices in order to either gain his love or break free from him...Emilie has distanced herself from the church and decided that her and August's young son will be named during a non-religious naming ceremony. This doesn't exactly please Johannes, because in the Krogh family, you're baptized... Elisabeth pays a visit to a clairvouyant in the hope of establishing contact with August.
