- Barry Singer (Christopher Meloni) is a stand-up comedian toiling in the netherworld of the LA comedy club scene. When he meets Thea Douglas, (Janel Moloney) a young political activist who is clearly in the "spiritual quest mode" he has his universe turned upside down. Together they throw themselves into a comic dance of high intimacy where for the first time in their lives the physical and emotional come together. When their relationship hits rock bottom he turns to Robert Levin, (Timothy Busfield) his romance coach and best friend, who leads him to one certainty; to cast off his career as a stand-up comedian, to put pride aside and go off in pursuit of his "Souler Opposite".
