Rent Freda Payne: High Standards (1980)

Freda Payne grew up with sister Scherrie Payne of the Supremes, listening to intoxicating jazz singers like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. She moved to New York City to begin her career, working with a Who's Who of entertainers such as Quincy Jones, Lionel Hampton, Sammy Davis Jr. and Pearl Bailey. When she released "Band of Gold," the song immediately shot to the top of the charts, transforming Freda from an unknown talent into an international Pop celebrity virtually overnight. The Ad Lib Series is a collection of 46 concert TV programs presenting the best Jazz, Pop and Blues artists showcasing their skills with a Jazz flair. Ad Lib (filmed in 1980) was the first musical television show recorded in Stereo. With a career full of success, accolades and fame, Freda Payne will forever be in the public's consciousness from the memory of her smash hit. However, her supreme talent and genuine musicality have made her a mainstay in the music scene. She still actively performs and records today, impressing audiences and critics alike, as she has done for the past 50 years.
