- 'Heidi' is a treasured story for all children, one of many tales written by the Swiss authoress, Johanna Spyri. This is a charming tale of a young orphan called Heidi who is taken to live with her Grandfather up in the mountains. At first Heidi doesn't adapt well to her new life but as she takes on adventures with her new friends Peter and Clara, Heidi finds that life up in the mountains isn't so bad after all. 'Heidi' was first published in 1880. A classic tale of childhood joys and friendships, it has delighted and inspired generations of children.
