A charming romantic comedy with Fred and Emily Hill (Henry Kendall and Joan Barry) inheriting a fortune that gives them the opportunity to shed their boring existence in London and live a life that until now they could only dream about. So together they decide to book a world cruise; something they had always wanted to do but could never afford. With all their troubles behind them, or so they think, they embark on their voyage without a care in the world. But it is a very different life on board a cruise liner from the one they've been used to at home. The people are different... they're not so friendly, and some are so snooty they don't even talk. Two talented song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter, they join forces with a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and trek to Vermont for a white Christmas. Of course, there's the requisite fun with the ladies, but the real adventure starts when Crosby and Kaye discover that the inn is run by their old army general who's now in financial trouble. And the result is the stuff dreams are made of.
As she hurls herself headlong at modern living, Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) is thrown roughly up against the walls of contemporary London, with all its frenetic energy, late nights and bright lights, in this very modern mix of fatalism and hedonism. Unfettered and unfiltered, Fleabag tears through the series sleeping with anyone who dares to stand too close, squeezing money from any orifice, rejecting anyone who tries to help her and keeping up the bravado all along. Because that's just the kind of messed-up, normal person she is. By turns hilarious and heart-breaking, this is the thoroughly disarming confessional of a woman so totally detached she's utterly lost, and ultimately wondering what the hell she ought to be doing in life. Much like the rest of us.
