The Intern

A nice-enough 'feel good' film but, oh my, the poor diction

(Edit) 02/05/2016

As the title says..it's a fluffy 'feel-good' film. No violence, swearing, sex or nudity! The eponymous PC film. The storyline is, however, as predictable as they come but a pleasant enough way to spend an evening curled up by a roaring log fire.

But the diction! Or more specifically Anne Hathaways' diction. I have an aversion to the way most American young women (and some not so young) speak. Most of them sound like a gerbil being slowly castrated but Anne Hathaway takes this to an all-time low by force feeding the gerbil some helium. Her diction is so bad that halfway through the film, we admitted defeat and turned on the sub-titles.

Gone Girl

Read the book. Much, much better

(Edit) 04/03/2015

Yet another mumbled incoherent American actor. What is it with these actors? Haven't they heard about proper speech projection? Opening the mouth to articulate the words ? Anyway, back to the film. The book is so much more subtle and I agree with the others who say that the film is pedestrian.

Life of Crime

Witty dialogue? Maybe - if you could hear it

(Edit) 22/02/2015

Another film we gave up on. Why is it that so many actors in films these days are so totally incapable of articulating words? Maybe the dialogue is intelligible if you live in Harlem but to anyone living in the Shires - utterly incomprehensible. Even with the speaker volume turned up. We did watch the film for a while with sub-titles turned on but felt watching a re-run of Foyle's War was time far better spent.

The Rewrite

So utterly boring and predictable

(Edit) 22/02/2015

I confess that we gave up early on as this film is so indescribably boring. Grant plays his usual one-dimensional Hugh Grant diffident Englishman. You've seen him in the same role in countless other films. Do yourself a favour and don't even reserve the film.

Red Cliff

Put the kettle on

(Edit) 24/10/2010

If you decide to watch this film then do yourself a favour. Set it running and then go and do something else for 20 minutes as that is the amount of time that those miserable gits at Entertainment Film Distributors will steal from your life. Trailer after trailer after trailer of sixth rate naff films that no-one in their right mind would ever want to watch. And they inhibit your DVD controls so you can't skip past any. Bastards.

Intermission

Unappealing

(Edit) 27/09/2010

I can't understand the rave review that this got in TimeOut. A more repulsive group of misfits I'd find hard to meet. Totally unengaging and had me wondering how long it had to run. So I took the easy way out and ejected it.
