Synopsis:
Keith (Hugh Grant) is a washed-up screenwriter who won an award for best Screenplay fifteen years ago. Now, he's divorced, approaching fifty, hasn't written a hit in years, and is going broke. He reluctantly takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college in New York, but when he falls for mature student and single mother, Holly (Marisa Tomei) teaching doesn't seem such a bad idea after all...

So utterly boring and predictable - The Rewrite review by RS

Spoiler Alert
22/02/2015

I confess that we gave up early on as this film is so indescribably boring. Grant plays his usual one-dimensional Hugh Grant diffident Englishman. You've seen him in the same role in countless other films. Do yourself a favour and don't even reserve the film.

Word perfect. No rewrite necessary - The Rewrite review by AS

Spoiler Alert
27/08/2017

A movie about how to write a movie. And in itself it follows the perfect movie paradigm: three acts, a neat narrative arc, clear turning points, character development and a satisfying resolution not only for the two main protagonists but also for all the supports. Hugh Grant offers his usual charming, slightly bumbling persona, but that's no bad thing as he does it so well. Marisa Tomei also does her serious/sexy/kooky act, but that's what's needed here and few can do it better. There are some great Woody Allenish one-liners to add snap to the proceedings. But no nudity, no drugs, no violence, no swearing. Now, that's original.
