In this fifth series, Timothy West and Prunella Scales embark on more remarkable canal journeys in Britain, Europe and India, enjoying the passion that they've shared for decades. The couple begin their adventures in India, where they follow the old spice route past temples and markets in the extraordinary backwaters of Kerala. They then strike out for the tea-trade route on the Brahmaputra river in Assam, where they meet an island community of monks and help bathe the elephants. Back in Britain, Tim and Pru have a vintage British holiday on the ancient and beautiful Norfolk Broads, followed by a very musical voyage on the enchanting Mon and Brec Canal in Wales. Heading to Europe, the pair wind through the picturesque valleys of Alsace, passing enchanted forests and fairy-tale castles. And finally they brave Europe's deepest lock to voyage through the hilltop vineyards of north-west Portugal on the old port wine trade route.
