Synopsis:
Throughout the giallo boom of the early 70s, some filmmakers adopted a more measured approach to their subject matter, emphasizing plotting and character, while others embraced the newly permissive climate of the times to revel in unadulterated violence and the sins of the flesh. A few managed to straddle both worlds, and one-off director Francesco Mazzei's The Weapon, the Hour, the Motive is a prime example of this juggling act. A young priest, Don Giorgio (Maurizio Bonuglia, The Fifth Cord}, is secretly engaged in affairs with two women - Orchidea (Bedy Moratti, Calling All Police Cars) and Giulia (Eva Czemerys, The Killer Reserved Nine Seats).
Not long after he attempts to break things off with both women, he is found stabbed to death in his church. Police commissioner Franco Boito (Renzo Montagnani, Massacre in Rome) arrives to investigate, only to embark on an affair with Orchidea himself. As more victims meet their end at the hands of the killer, could the wide-eyed young boy who lives at the local convent hold the key to unlocking the mystery? Horny priests and self-flagellating nuns abound in this atypical, little-seen giallo from the genre's heyday, featuring music by Euro-cult regular Francesco De Masi (The New York Ripper) and special effects courtesy of the acclaimed Carlo Rambaldi (Deep Red, Alien) -now restored in high definition for the first time ever.

FILM & REVIEW AKA The Weapon, The Time, The Motive Effective Giallo has handsome Priest (Bonoglia) who is having a passionate affair with married Orechedia (Morrati) but breaks it off as its sin against God and the Church. In reality he is fed up with her and is now bedding her friend - needless to say its not long before he is found stabbed to death in his church - so you have two jealous women, their husbands and even a nun who who seems to have had the hots for the priest as well. Soon the bodies and red herrings mount up leaving the investigating Policeman Montagaini having to reset his theories each time and things are complicated when he begins an affair with Orchedia as well. Add in a small orphan boy who seems to know more then he lets on and a bunch of nuns who self-flagelatte to orgasm and it rattles along nicely - 4/5
