In this great tragicomedy of war, director-screenwriter brothers Vittorio and Paolo Taviani (Padre Padrone) draw on their own childhood memories and portray them through the eyes of six-year-old Cecilia. As a grown woman, she recalls the fateful summer of 1944 when the allied forces were advancing on her small Italian town. Afraid yet fascinated, Cecilia witnesses acts of brutality and heroism, of love and hatred, of loyalty and betrayal, inflating events into almost mythical proportions as lifelong friends join forces or fight on different sides. Starring Omero Antonutti (Padre Padrone) and Margarita Lozano (Jean de Florette).

Villagers tremble with fear and hope in the dying days of the Nazi occupation of Italy. A beautifully observed account of the chaos of war amid a bucolic landscape witnessed through the eyes of a beguiling little girl.
