Francesco and his wife, Marta, run a successful design company in Rome, but their marriage is failing. When Francesco's estranged aunt dies, he inherits her property in Istanbul. Escaping the stressful environment of his office, he seizes the opportunity to travel to Turkey to sell the property. Arriving in Istanbul, he meets the family who looked after his aunt and still live in her house. They treat him like a long lost relative and adopt him into their close family circle and simple way of life. Discovering that the building contains an old hamam, he falls for its architectural subtleties and cultural history and resolves to use all his skill to restore it. With the assistance of the local community he lovingly begins this task. The longer he stays, the more he discovers about his aunt's adventurous and sensually exciting life in Turkey. His passion for the hamam awakens a new passion in his life as he begins to fall in love with Mehmet, the son of his aunt's old servants. With the sudden and unexpected arrival of his wife, his journey of self-discovery becomes even more complicated.

This is a well put together story of how people and places can change your life in unexpected ways. The story unravels slowly with the main charecter entering an alien world and yet feeling comfortable in it quickly and almost effortlesly. He emraces this new world whole heartedly but without burning his gridges with the old. If you like to follow a story outside the normal western cinema stereo types, watch this
