Genevieve (Nia Vardalos) owns a flower shop in the heart of Brooklyn. Despite being a hopeless romantic - she has her own unique take on the dating game. She lives by a strict five date rule so she doesn't get dumped and never gets hurt. Then she meets local restaurateur Greg (John Corbett) who can't follow any rules when it comes to elating. He doesn't know how male-female relationships are supposed to work, so he stays unmarried. When the two pair up, they try to stick to Genevieve's five-date rule, but they didn't count on love entering the equation. Before they know it, they are falling for each other. But will this new romance cause Genevieve to reconsider her philosophy of love? ...
