Sylvia (Charlize Theron) is a beautiful restaurant manager whose cool, professional demeanour masks the sexually-charged storm within. When a stranger from Mexico confronts her with her dark and hidden past, Sylvia is launched into a journey, painfully forcing her to face her demons and the past she thought she had left behind.

A nicely put together film

I liked this film although I was dubious about renting it. It turns out to be well made and enjoyable, the twist is good as is the ending. It shows things from a childs point of view and I liked the way it was scripted, shot and acted. Overall I would recommend it.

Burning Plain starts off so well, a sense of mystery about where the journey is taking us, backed with some excellent cinematography. Arriaga tries to weave the three strands into some logical format yet fails terribly. Everything revolves around sex, taboo and denial multiplied three fold. A sadly hollow concoction ensues where you feel little connection with either camp and just don't care above the conclusion of their journey. Given the talent onscreen, Burning Plain is a real waste.
