Jimmy Muir (Sean Bean) comes from a typical gritty, northern town where there are only two options: working down the pit, or in a factory. But Jimmy has other ideas - he dreams of becoming a professional footballer. Encouraged by his girlfriend Annie (Emily Lloyd), he plays every week for the local amateur team. But when he's spotted by local talent scout Ken, Jimmy finally has the chance to fulfil his life's ambition.
