Acting a little wooden but a very good story keeping me guessing. Well worth a watch. I believe the first Wilkie Collins novel.
Watched this on TV when it came out and hired Discs 1 and 2 to revisit. Gripped from start to finish on both discs. You are kept guessing throughout and it would be difficult to guess how the end of Disc 2 turned out. Might need to suspend disbelief once or twice but good viewing.
Excellent film from gripping novel. Rachel Weisz very well cast and it was very much "did she, didn't she" as in the book. Question is left open.
I thoroughly enjoyed all Series 1 of "The Crown". My overwhelming impression is that the Queen has almost no say in her own dealings and no power or authority. It is ruled by an Establishment which can be very cruel. The treatments of Edward VIII and Princess Margaret were portrayed as lacking in humanity - indeed, lacking the Christian virtue of love and humankindness - and yet the Queen is head of the Church of England!
Well acted and I particularly enjoyed the casting of Princess Margaret.
Makes me want to become a Republican!
This was a difficult film to watch, and sequencing tricky as it jumped about a bit. However it later became clear that the "flashback" was directly related to the incident shown. Worthwhile if you don't mind not feeling too happy. A lot of pathos. Very convincing characters especially Casey Affleck in the leading role. Not for the fainthearted, but it is for anyone who wants to understand raw and difficult human emotions. The "Emotional Story" (one of the extras on the dvd) explained a lot and was very useful.
It is one of the worst films I have seen. Could hardly follow the plot but film got so bad it wasn't worth replaying it to work out the thoroughly disjointed time sequence. Waste of time
I have read the book and the film was (mostly) true to it. Bob was marvellous and other characters credible. It shows the horrors of the downward spiral of being on the street and on drugs, and that it is possible to find a way out. I now see those selling "Big Issue" in a different light and often buy it.
A good lesson to our sometimes hard society.
