- When society hostess Ethel Durant (Katharine Pate) dies leaving a vast estate, the search begins for the rightful heir. Believed to have died childless, it soon becomes clear that Ethel's life before her rise to fortune was shrouded in mystery and controversy, and that she did in fact give birth to a baby girl. With £500,000 going to the lawful descendant, it becomes a race against time to uncover a truth hidden for 30 years and fulfil the wishes of a remorseful mother.

Worth watching - The Durant Affair review by BN
I thought it was a late 50s film but this is dated '62. I love dipping back in 50s B&W Ealing and British-made B pictures for the views of familiar London locations, lack of traffic, neatness in towns and villages and the tailored women's dresses and suits.
Unfortunately there were sad attitudes towards women working but on the whole people were efficient and happy in their jobs.
Thoughtful, gripping court-based story of trying to find the back history of a rich widow who's left her fortune to an unknowing woman.
Some curious twists and turns but I enjoyed it. Well worth a watch.
