America's famous comic book policeman came to life on the silver screen during the 1940's with four film appearances. The last in the series was this action packed crime caper which mixed sci-fi with comic strip humour. Karloff plays Gruesome and breaks out of prison to start another crime spree. A scientist introduces him to a secret gas that puts people into temporary suspended animation, so that the crooks can walk in and rob a bank at their leisure.
Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome has an enviable cast with Ralph Byrd as the hero and Boris Karloff as the creepy and charismatic villain. The B-movie icon, Ann Gywnne is the sexiest Tess Trueheart of all the films and the menacing, ghostly Skelton Knaggs plays the scene stealing X-Ray. A superb crime movie from the golden age of film detectives.
