- Synopsis:
A voice calls from the shadows of the opera house to innocent chorus girl Christine Daae (Emmy Rossum). Only ballet mistress Madame Giry (Miranda Richardson) knows that the voice is that of the Phantom (Gerard Butler), a disfigured musical genius who haunts the catacombs of the theatre. When temperamental diva La Carlotta (Minnie Driver) storms out, the theatre managers (Simon Callow and Ciaran Hinds) thrust Christine into the spotlight. Her mesmerizing performance captivates both the audience and the Phantom. But he is not the only powerful man to be awed by the young soprano, as Christine finds herself courted by the theatre's wealthy patron, the Vicompte Raoul de Chagny (Patrick Wilson). Though she is enthralled by the Phantom, Christine is drawn to the dashing Raoul, enraging the Phantom and setting the stage for a dramatic crescendo. - Actors:

A bore - The Phantom of the Opera review by CP Customer
I was thinking this might be another Evita - one of my favourite films, but I was sorely disappointed. With Evita the songs move the story along and the action is constant. This film is just dragged out with very long sequences in which the characters just sang to each other, not telling the audience anything and quite were frankly rather dull.

Phantom - The Phantom of the Opera review by CP Customer
If you enjoyed the stage version you will love this. The music, as ever, is superb, the atmosphere is great, and the subtle use of sepia and colour works well. I would rent this DVD again.
