Synopsis:
For two years Grayson Perry, Turner Prize-wining artist and transvestite, worked behind the scenes at the British Museum to stage his most ambitious show yet. In a major departure for both artist and Museum, Perry was given free rein to delve into more than 8 million of the Museum's objects and create an exhibition from the artefacts that caught his imagination, alongside his own works. He explores a range of themes connected with craftsmanship and sacred journeys - from shamanism, magic and holy relics to motorbikes, identity and contemporary culture.
Granted unique behind-the-scenes access, this film paints a revealing portrait of Perry's creative process, and even follows him on a motorbike pilgrimage to Germany as he explores the artworks, ideas and motivations that lay behind 'The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman'.
