Synopsis:
In an explosive and action-packed story of heroism and courage under fire, American and Russian troops must join forces in a desperate mission that could change the course of World War II. The key to victory lies in the genius mind of one man - Nicky Raus (Todd Field), a Jewish scientist who's on the brink of developing a weapon of tremendous destructive power. When Nazi agents succeed in a daring operation to kidnap him, US Special Forces' Frank Hossom (Craig Sheffer) is dispatched to bring the scientist back - dead or alive.
With the odds stacked against him and time running out, Frank teams up with Russian agents and mounts a desperate rescue mission to save the scientist from the clutches of the Nazis and their malevolent leader, General von Binding (Ron Perlman). While the war rages on, the fight for ultimate victory starts here...

Good Old-fashioned Russian World War II Movie, Very Derring-Do - The Second Front review by PV

Spoiler Alert

I quite liked this. It is very Russian - the credits are only in Russian, But spoken in English and with subtitles for German/Russian bits only.

The cuts between scenes are the slides I remember from old Flash Gordon series, as emulated by Indiana Jones films in tribute to such adventure stories of the past at the cinema, which Spielberg remembered fondly. Very 1930s!

It's all derring-do and adventure, not sure how believable though supposedly based don a true story. At the end of the film claims are made re the scientist - no idea if they are true.

Great fun in many ways. A good old-fashioned adventure film, by the Russians.
