Beneath the floorboards of a sprawling mansion set in a magical, overgrown garden in the suburbs of Tokyo, tiny 14-year-old Arrietty lives with her equally tiny parents. The house is occupied by two old ladies, who are unaware of the existence of their miniature tenants.

Teenage Shizuku has a passion for books and plans to spend her last summer holiday in junior high school reading in the library and translating popular foreign music into Japanese.

But her plans are disrupted when she discovers that the same name, Seiji Amasawa, appears on each of the books she borrows.
