47 Meters Down

Not Jaws but not bad!

(Edit) 27/12/2017

This is no ‘Jaws’ movie but to be fair it does everything a shark movie needs to do in keeping you gripped with suspense as to what’s going to happen and where the sharks are. Keeps you on edge throughout and the sharks are realistic in appearance. Certainly better than I was expecting!

Dunkirk

Well filmed

(Edit) 24/12/2017

Well filmed and drama throughout to keep you engrossed. The film could have done with more emotional content towards some the individuals and/or situations but that wasn’t missing from the RAF pilots. Atmospheric throughout and very well filmed. There are better war films out there but this film is about portraying a significant moment in history rather than just being an action packed war film.

Dogtooth

Bizarre!!

(Edit) 18/12/2017

This is a very bizarre film. Has a similar feel to the Human Centipede movies but without the total grossness. However, there are a few disturbing scenes. For most of the film you're asking yourself, why? It's watchable though, if you fancy a fairly short and very different film to watch.

Ex_Machina

Sci-fi with a difference

(Edit) 06/12/2017

The difference being that this could so easily be comprehensible in years to come with our dangerous obsession with the misuse of technology. A slow moving but engaging thriller, that keeps you guessing at the outcome right up until the end.

The Great Gatsby

Turned it off....

(Edit) 02/12/2017

Well that’s only the second film in my life that I’ve turned off before the end. The Great Gatsby is visually stunning but it’s like The Wolf of Wall Street (superb film) but with comfy slippers, a hot water bottle and a blanket. Was boring me to tears with no real story being told!!

The Lucky One

Could have been better, could have been worse!

(Edit) 16/11/2017

A pretty standard chick-flick with all the required ingredients but never quite reached the heights of being anything fantastic or something that had you in floods of tears one minute and you’re heart leaping the next. A solid and good to watch movie; nothing more, nothing less.

Timbuktu

Visually bueatiful

(Edit) 13/11/2017

This is a bueatifully shot film that’s slow in places but works with the emotions of the people living under an oppressive regime. A simple but effective film.

Creed

Knockout!

(Edit) 04/11/2017

I’ve always been a big fan of the classic Rocky movies and was worried about watching this. However, the film is a real triumph and sits perfectly alongside the others. It had great little touches that tied in with the rocky movies without overdoing it, to ensure that it was it’s own film. Acting great, storyline great and that classic ‘rocky film’ build up to a great crescendo was as good as ever. There was even one part in the film that made me emotional when those Creed trunks came out. A great film!

Juste Une Question D'Amour

Love defeats all

(Edit) 18/10/2017

A story of love conquering the barriers and dramas that sometimes try to derail or stop two people who are truly in love with each other. The frustrations and testing trials along the way in this homosexual love story makes it such an endearing film and leaves you smiling when love real does conquer all. The acting in the whole was good and made you feel the emotions that were being portrayed by the characters. A great little film.

Hell or High Water

A bit boring

(Edit) 18/10/2017

To be honest I found this film a bit boring. Yes it was a modern western and had a different twist on the reasons behind the bank jobs but ultimately it failed on too many levels for me. Average acting, not very griping (even in the action scenes) and the way to storyline played out was too lethargic and basic.

The Bucket List

Tears of laughter and sadness

(Edit) 08/10/2017

Two of my favourite actors (Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson) deliver and endearing on-screen paternship in this wonderfully funny, yet heartwarming film. The best films are the ones that make you cry with laughter but also cry with sadness and this certainly delivers. A fantastic film that should be on everyone’s bucket list!

The King's Speech

Sensational on-screen relationship

(Edit) 03/10/2017

You could be forgiven for thinking a film about someone with a stutter could be very boring but far from it. The on-screen relationship between the King and his speech therapist is superbly portrayed with two exceptional acting performances by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. It’s a fascinating relationship between the two, that at times is fraught with anger and frustration but ultimately excels because of the compassion and respect that both have for each other. Splendid film!!

Moonlight

Expected more

(Edit) 25/09/2017

After seeing the awards that the film had won, I was eager to watch this but was ultimately left expecting more from this film. It's basically a coming of age film that's split into three seperate periods of the main characters life and despite there being some poignant scenes in places, it was a little lethargic and devoid of enough content to really grab you.

Manchester by the Sea

Laborious

(Edit) 18/09/2017

Such a laborious film. Was expecting so much more, having seen the trailers. Not even the performances were anything to rave about. Disappointing overall.

Hacksaw Ridge

So much more than just a war film!

(Edit) 17/09/2017

A stunning movie but it's so much more than just one of the great war films. It's a true story about the love, commitment and faith of a genuine hero. Superb!!
