In this dystopian vision of a future Brazil, Joana (Dira Paes) lives a fervent spiritual life dedicated to the Church of Divine Love. She is a loyal bureaucrat who tries to 'save' struggling couples from divorce. But, in a society where a woman's destiny is defined by motherhood, she is unable to conceive and so prays for a miracle. 'Divine Love' is a prescient, provocative satire, exploring how political power manipulates sex and spirituality. There's an erotic and playful aspect to this damaged, neon-hued society but there's also a chilling authenticity.
