Synopsis:
Susan Dey is beguiling and sexy, and Oscar nominee Tom Hulce gives a winning performance in this low-key, unaffected and very funny movie about the hopes, loves and friendship of three dreamers. Co-starring Michael Bowen and featuring Cheech Marin and Cassandra Petersen, this wonderfully offbeat and irresistibly charming film is a delight! Dey portrays May, a single mother who dreams of stardom in the L.A. neighbourhood of Echo Park. To make ends meet, she takes a job as a stripper and rents out a room to Jonathan (Hulce), a pizza-delivering songwriter who immediately falls for her. But May's interest lies in the bodybuilder-next-door (Bowen).
And even as the trio forms a fast friendship that supports them in the face of Hollywood's heartbreaks, Jonathan's jealousy threatens to get the better of him - and to destroy the only true family that any of them have in Echo Park

Underwhelming - Echo Park review by MH

Susan Dey, beguiling and sexy? I found her unattractive, unappealing, and uncharismatic. I'm glad I was told it was supposed to be a comedy because otherwise I wouldn't have understood why it is just so SILLY.

It's a tawdry tale not worth the telling and I'm surprised they managed to get the funding to make it.

I watched it to see what Tom Hulce would be like in a 'normal' role, having only seen him before in 'Amadeus'.

He is really, really cute and I'm not surprised he was nominated for an Oscar, which he might have won if only he'd been in a half-decent film.
