What a total waste of time, don't bother to watch this. Rather than watch it again I would rather have 20 tons of pig manure tipped over my head.
Guy X revolves around the character of Rudy Spruance, an American soldier posted to an isolated U.S army base in Greenland. Claiming his posting was a clerical error Rudy tries to get himself transferred off the base, unfortunately when he tries to resolve the problem he finds his identity has been changed, and has no way of correcting the records to prove his real identity. 'Guy X' suffers from two problems, firstly it's a film that's hard to categorise and has been foolishly marketed as a comedy, which it's not. While there are some amusing moments, generally the first half of film is a more off beat and quirky affair somewhat like a lightweight version of 'Catch 22' or Robert Altman's 'MASH', and the second half soon becomes a straight drama with a sinister undertone, so if you're expecting laughs you're going to be disappointed. Secondly, the film also suffers from some really poor direction. In the hands of a better director 'Guy X' could have been a decent film with a decent story to tell, but you get the feeling director Saul Metzstein had absolutely no sense of what direction the film should take, and the result is pretty disjointed and aimless.
