During the 1950s, musical masterpieces that are still to be equaled were produced in Cinemascope with stereophonic sound. This video explores how the post-war years were alive with bold experimentation in musical film. Later in the decade, Rock and Roll became the musical choice of the younger generation and movie musicals followed suit. Highlights of this programme include clips from films based in smash Broadway musicals which become the rage with hits like "The King And I", "Oklahoma!", "Carousel" and "South Pacific" making their way into movie theatres... A pretty starlet with no musical training named Marilyn Monroe taking the world by storm in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes".
