Synopsis:
Based on the heartbreaking true story of Banaz Mahmod, a young woman murdered by her family for falling in love with the wrong man, this powerful drama explores the fight to bring her killers to justice. When DCI Caroline Goode (Keeley Hawes), discovered that Banaz (Buket Komur) had been to the police five times to report threats to her life from members of her own family, she was appalled that her colleagues had missed multiple chances to prevent this so-called 'honour' killing. Caroline vowed that she would not rest until she finally got justice for Banaz. Honour is a tense and moving drama that brings this important story, and a detective's unwavering quest, vividly to life.

Rather dull police drama based on true story - Honour review by TH

Spoiler Alert
30/09/2020

It's always hard to review things based on true events but I felt like this was cheaply made and followed a very simple and slightly cliche route for a police drama. The acting is ok but it never seems to click or engage. I felt very little for the police characters. Shame

Spotlight on domestic terror - Honour review by TE

Spoiler Alert
22/12/2020

Good two-parter on an important subject, the misuse of the word "honour" in connection with the murder and extreme abuse of young women who break away from the oppression practised by a minority of families within certain cultures.

The tension is well built up and maintained, with Keeley Hawes steering the whole film in convincing style.

It often feels slightly rushed and perhaps it could have benefited from being at least a three-parter, but this is a minor point compared to the importance of the voice given to the victims.
