Leave No Trace

Quietly understated but powerful

(Edit) 05/08/2021

A really brilliant film. Excellent in every area. The casting, acting and photography are outstanding and I was particularly impressed by the lack of hysteria and unnecsssary hyperbole and noise. What a lesson for other film makers. No false panics; no fights and super heroes; no swearing nudity or sex. Best film I have seen in ages.

Bait

Micro budget & Micro entertainment

(Edit) 19/02/2021

A Director's film with two objectives. Firstly of trying to be different and secondly of trying to be clever. Why on earth was it made in a poor 1920 or !930 style with all the appeal of poor camera work and Black & White 16mm film. A complete waste of Blu Ray.

The storyline was weak and predictable. The characters sterotypical and boring. I am desperately trying to find someting good to say about this film but failing at every turn.

Oh yes; mercifully it was quite short!

What We Did on Our Holiday

A film to be enjoyed by all

(Edit) 10/10/2020

This film is brilliant! It's well written, well acted and the storyline is believable. Congratulations to all participants. The characters were likeable and the children adorable. I would thoroughly recommend this film to old and young. I shall probably watch it again and again. More please.

Rocketman

FANTASTIC

(Edit) 31/08/2020

I am not a fan of musicals. This film, however, was by far the best musical that I have ever seen. The performances by all the leading actors was brilliant and the whole film was entertaining from start to finish. By using the Elton John songs appropriately the story became real and although the storyline was probably inaccurate or exagerated, who cares; the end result was stunning. The best film that I have seen since Gladiator!

Downton Abbey

Could do better

(Edit) 01/07/2020

This film really gives me a problem. The principal story is of a royal visit, which is pretty dull and I was expecting some sub plots to add some drama or entertainment. What a disappointment. A mismash of inconsequential drivel and unbelievable storylines supported the main story and not one of them was of any help in rescuing a disaster.

Do adults really behave like this? Is the film supposed to be a comedy? Is the film pro or agin the aristocracy? Should we all convert to marxism or become republicans? Should we all hope for a revolution?

The dialogue was weak; the acting wooden and the characters dislikeable.

Photography and costumes helped to raise it to a 2 star.

Ocean's 8

Am I becoming senile?

(Edit) 07/06/2020

I absolutely love films which show a master team of robbers involved in a complicated heist. This film, however, was bordering on ludicrous.

The acting was farcical, the characters were weak and unbelievable and the plot was ridiculous. Was this written by a 'Womans Libber? I do not regard myself as stupid but I must admit that I completely failed to understand what was happening and finally just gave up. To summerize, a load of twaddle that wasn't even entertaining.

Cold Pursuit

About time Liam retired

(Edit) 28/04/2020

I have enjoyed Liam's films in the past and was looking forward to viewing this one. What a disappointment. It was awful.

I gave up hope after 20 mins and turned it off!

Green Book

Predictable but enjoyable

(Edit) 28/01/2020

Brilliant acting and an atmospheric backdrop made this film both entertaining and engaging. The story was predictable but nevertheless paced well. Probably not a true indicator of the sixties in the deep south but who cares? Thoroughly enjoyable.

The Favourite

Disappointing

(Edit) 19/11/2019

I had seen the trailer and was really looking forward to viewing this film. What a disappointment! The dialogue was poor the scenery dull and depressing and the storyline weak. I was expecting brilliant acting but even this was wooden.

Rarely do I switch off before seeing the full film but on this occasion I gave up after 30 minutes!

Nebraska

Good but not sure why

(Edit) 11/06/2019

I really enjoyed this film but I'm not sure why. The story line was believable; the acting superb and the characters realistic. The ending was brilliant but for the life of me I do not think that filming it in Black & White was a good decision. I can understand that the Director wanted to create a harsh, no nonsense atmosphere but I would have preferred colour.

Mother!

DARK

(Edit) 10/04/2019

Very dark. Well acted. Very entertaining. Why did I spend so much trime laughing? What the hell was it all about?

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Worst film I've seen for a long time.

(Edit) 26/11/2018

Congratulations to all involved with the production of this film. It fails at every level. The storyline is pathetic; the acting wooden; the characters weak and the final scenes laughable. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. A real team effort of abject failure.

A waste of time!!!

A Single Man

Boring

(Edit) 02/10/2018

I rarely fail to watch a film to the end. This film was terrible and I switched off after about 20 minutes. The acting was fine but the storyline non exitistent and the characters did nothing to encourage any empathy. A poor film. A boring film and a waste of acting talent.

Darkest Hour

Historically inaccurate AND boring

(Edit) 25/07/2018

I very much doubt the accuracy of this film and I think the role played by the King to be a joke. We all know that the Royal family have always been more interested in preserving their own lifestle than safeguarding the British people. I also think that the scenes in the London subway must be the figment of a very gullible or naive writer.

The acting was brilliant but the film was disappointing and so so so BORING.
