Military Wives

Standard british drama

(Edit) 14/07/2020

Military wives is one of those british films that entertains with a likeable cast of actors and some laughs mix with sadder moments. This feels like the sort of film you would happily watch in a sunday afternoon and enjoy.

Sharon Horgan is great as always and the supporting cast are good too.

It's a good story and worth a watch but not sure it would warrant repeat viewing.

Emma

Classic story and decent retelling

(Edit) 03/07/2020

This is a really good adaptation of Emma. The cast are spot on and really enjoyed Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role. The story is fairly standard period drama tale but due to some bits of humour and decent acting makes it an enjoyable film.

The Nightingale

Great film although not easy to watch

(Edit) 03/07/2020

Jennifer Kent follow up to the babbadook is a really different type of film. This follows the attempt of a young irish girl looking to get revenge on the british soldier who violated her and murderer her family. Aisling is great and believable in the lead role. Sam Claflin and Damon Herriman as the soldiers are the nasty cowardice soldiers and play the parts well.

Not the easiest of films to watch but it's very powerful and emotional.

Richard Jewell

Exposing the cruelty of the government and media

(Edit) 03/07/2020

Richard Jewell is a simple man who is great at memorizing details and admirers the police force and authority. He is also portrayed as someone who wants to be honest and treat everyone with respect.

The cast are spot on. The truth is the victims included Richard who was scapegoated by lazy law enforcements and media outlets just looking for a front page article that the real culprit was still out carrying out the same crimes.

Some have criticised the handling of journalist Kathy. However reading some articles many people she worked with state the character is 99% spot on and the only thing that may have been off is her seducing for leads.

Clint Eastwood has become a bit hit or miss with some of his films recently but this is back on track.

Some will write off Clint Eastwood and his films due to his political beliefs. These are ignorant people who can't look beyond there own biases and appreciate a film for what it is. Go in with an open mind and just enjoy.

Knives Out

Great whodunnit

(Edit) 03/07/2020

If you are looking for an action packed murder mystery then this wont be for you. If however you like the agathe christie style murder mystery of investigating a crime and all the little clues adding up and fitting like a jigsaw then I cant recommend this enough. The cast are all great and unlikeable as they are meant to be. Daniel Craig is great despite the dodgy accent. Knocked only a star off due to guessing the killer half way through but will still enjoyable.

Eighth Grade

Not for me

(Edit) 01/07/2020

Theres no doubt this film is well intentioned. This film is by no means bad, I just dont think I was the target audience. This film follows a young girl navigating her way in life just before joining high school. This features some very natural performances but is mainly a lot of social media quirks and plots along relying on people being able to relate to the character.

Looking Glass

B movie rubbish

(Edit) 01/07/2020

Dont waste your time with this one. This is just another terrible b movie that Nicholas Cage seems to be pumping out. Walks around barely making any effort. Waste of 2 fairly good actors.

The Invisible Man

A horror film that doesnt just rely on jump scenes

(Edit) Updated 02/07/2020

I watched this at the cinema just before lockdown. What a good horror movie for once. From one of the writers of the original Saw movies I had some Hope's this would be good and luckily it was. It helps that the acting is strong throughout and the film keeps you gripped from start to end. There has only been a few horror movie that have stood out to me in the last couple of years and luckily this is one of them.

Haunt

Average horror film

(Edit) Updated 02/07/2020

Some good ideas and attempts to give some personality to the characters but sadly it doesnt push this beyond standard horror movie. Still not sure why anyone would go to a random haunted house in this day and age without knowing about it haha.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Should of been more fun

(Edit) 22/06/2020

Where to start. So a lot of praise was given to the film for going back and redesigning Sonic which is great that fans get their voices heard. But sadly while Sonic looks great and has a lot of fun, it struggles to push itself to the next level. The best bit of casting is Jim Carrey (miss Jim and his silly antics) but sadly even he cant quite do enough to make the film memorable. Its decent enough for a watch but would of been good for the script to he a bit sharper and had added in something more for adults who grew up on sonic. Overall worth a watch but fingers crossed the after credit scene opens up a potentially better follow up film.

Scarborough

Not for me

(Edit) 21/06/2020

This felt very low budget with not much plot and nothing to hold my attention or interest. Cant really say much else.

The Haunting of Sharon Tate

Just bad

(Edit) 13/06/2020

This film is not good at all. I managed just over half hour and everything from the acting to the script was just bad. The 35 or so minutes I viewed was so slow it felt like I had been watching it for much longer. This felt so cheaply made too.

The Keeper

Interesting enough but not memorable

(Edit) 17/06/2020

This was an interesting film that tells the story of a German goalkeeper becoming a football icon. The story is quite simple and despite being watchable I wouldn't say this is a classic true story film. The acting is decent and you wont be bored but I doubt many will remember it after watching.

Bluebird

Interesting if not groundbreaking

(Edit) 17/06/2020

If you are aware of the bluebird cafe then this is an interesting documentary about one of the most famous venues for songwriters. This provides back story of how the place started, interviews with staff and songwriters and some performances from different singers including Vince Gill, Maren Morris and Jason isbell etc.

Interesting but not groundbreaking.

Eye for an Eye

Feels a bit old fashioned

(Edit) 09/06/2020

Despite a decent cast including John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, Peter Stormare, Brendan Fraser and Famke Janssen. This film just feels like a story to a cheap 80s tv movie. The film plots along at a reasonable pace but not one character stands out and the script just does the job. Not a very memorable movie at all.
